Winning 7 out of the 9 titles on offer, PPBA trainees dominated the All India Junior Ranking Badminton Tournament held at Ludlow Castle Complex in Delhi from 12th to 18th September 2016. In the All India Junior Open held in Hyderabad earlier this year as well, our players had netted 7 titles.
Of the seven titles garnered, three of the finals were contested between PPBA teams. Both the Under 17 and 19 Boys’ singles titles remained in PPBA for the fifth time this year with Kiran George beating Jagadeesh to win the U17 title and Mithun beating Chirag Sen to win the U19 title.
This was the second All India title for both these boys. Mithun went on to bag the U19 Boys’ Doubles in the company of Bodhit Joshi making it a memorable double, also for the second time this year. Shikha Gautam won her second All India title of the season at the expense of Prashi Joshi, who had to rest content with the runner up position in the U17 Girls’ Singles as well.
Ashwini Bhat and Mithula, national champions in both the U17 & U19 Girls’ doubles did an encore in Delhi as well. They beat a fighting Unnati & Akarshi in three games the U17 doubles finals and surprisingly beat their vanquishers in three of the earlier finals viz., their training mates Mahima Aggarwal and Shikha Gautam, in straight games. Mahima combined with Krishnaprasad to win her third Mixed Doubles title on the trot, beating Balraj and Mithula in the finals.
